Driver FAQ’s
Will I be self-employed?
Crayford Cars only engages self-employed sub-contracting drivers. For good order with our TFL licence, we expect you to be registered with the HMRC and will want your UTR (unique tax reference number) to show that you are “fit and proper”. If you don’t have an accountant, We have negotiated preferential rates from the industry specialist accountant Driver tax.
Do I need my own vehicle?
If you don’t own a four door car, you may use a hired vehicle from any car hire company and use that to carry our your work or for personal purposes, subject to your insurance policy.

Do I need experience?
You do not necessarily need experience of driving a private hire vehicle. If you are enthusiastic, reliable, have a good knowledge of South London. You also need to be able to read, write and speak good English, Please also read our Joining Requirements section.
What training will I receive?
24 hr Crayford Cars do not provide training. We can only advise you of companies that can provide you with the private hire training, knowledge and the documents you may need to apply your licence. They will give you the opportunity to take an NVQ level 2 in Road Passenger Vehicle Driving. However, this is your choice and NOT a requirement of Crayford Cars.
How much will I earn?
Your success depends on you, while you work when you want, the more journeys you complete, the more you will earn.
Do I pay for my own fuel?
Yes, it is your responsibility to ensure that the vehicle is always has enough fuel to complete the journey. Fuel costs are an expense that can be claimed back on your tax returns.
Will I have satellite navigation in my car?
It is the driver’s responsibility to supply your own equipment such as any form of Sat Nav.
What do I need to become a driver?
Before accepting bookings from Crayford Cars, you will need to provide us with your Documents (please see Joining Requirements)

Will I be paid cash for every journey?
There are three types of booking
The priority service for account-based bookings
For these journeys, we will take your money for you, direct from your client and you will be paid weekly in arrears, Account work will be credited and paid directly into your bank account.
Cash bookings
For these journeys, the passenger will pay you directly, in cash, when you have completed the journey. These bookings help top up your cash flow.
Credit/Debit Card Bookings
Customers can book their journey using our website www.24hrcrayfordcare.co.uk and register a Credit/Debit card, any transaction will show on the drivers Account Credit Sheet, as a self-employed driver you can obtain a credit card terminal which can be linked directly to your bank account.
Joining Requirements
- Valid UK driver’s license.
- Transport for London private hire licence (Paper & Badge) Clean driving record.
- National Insurance Card or Proof of National Insurance.
- Proof of Address (not older than 4 months).
- Passport size Photo.
- UTR (Unique Tax Reference number).
- Android mobile phone (operating system must be 4.5 or above)
